setup-ssh
Set up passwordless SSH and memorable shortcuts between your own computers.
I got tired of setting up SSH keys and remembering IP addresses every time I wanted to use another computer. setup-ssh enrolls your devices, exchanges public keys, and adds shortcuts so you can use commands like ssh mac or ssh linux.
Less setup. More ssh mac.
One setup for your computers
An interactive wizard collects your devices and configures SSH access in both directions between the accounts you add.
Shortcuts you can remember
Give each device a name. Use it with ordinary ssh, scp, and sftp commands after setup.
Sync when devices are available
Add another computer, sync available devices, and check every connection when the whole group is online.
Install
With uv installed, run this from any directory. It installs the published setup-ssh-cli package and makes the setup-ssh command available.
uv tool install setup-ssh-cliNext step
Start the interactive wizard, include this computer, and add the devices you want to connect. Keep them online for the first sync.

Python 3.11+ · OpenSSH on your devices
Your devices need OpenSSH enabled and a working network connection. The accounts you enroll grant each other SSH access; each private key stays on its own device. NetBird or another private network is set up separately.
